Today is World Happy Day

11 Feb 2012 | Action for Happiness

Today is World Happy Day and thousands of people are joining together in communities all over the world to watch the film Happy. Screenings are taking place at over 600 locations in 60 countries across all 7 continents.

Happy is an inspiring documentary from Academy Award nominated director Roko Belic (Genghis Blues) that aims to discover what really makes us happy. It takes the audience from the bayous of Louisianato the deserts of Namibia, from the beaches of Brazil to the villages of Okinawa, to explore the secrets behind our most valued emotion.

Along the way we learn how happy people are healthier and live longer; they are more likely to care for the environment and less likely to commit crime. Happy people help others more often and are more likely to find creative solutions to problems. Increasing happiness brings big benefits for individuals, communities and society as a whole.

Roko Belic said: "Our goal is for people all around the world to come together, on the same day, start the conversation about happiness and begin to live happier, more fulfilling lives"

Screenings of Happy are being supported by Action for Happiness, a movement of people who are passionate about creating a happier society. Its 20,000 members come from all walks of life and are taking practical action to create happier communities, families, schools and workplaces.

Mark Williamson, director of Action for Happiness said: "Happy is a wonderful film that had people laughing out loud, moved to tears and spontaneously applauding when we screened it in London recently. World Happy Day is a unique global event where people in local communities all around the world will connect together and be inspired to help build happier lives and communities.
