About the book and author

Seldon At School

Sir Anthony Seldon is arguably Britain's best-known Headmaster and famously introduced wellbeing classes into his school, Wellington College in 2006. He is also a leading authority on contemporary British history and author of over 30 books, including biographies of all recent British Prime Ministers. In 2011, he co-founded Action for Happiness with Richard Layard and Geoff Mulgan - and in 2014 he received a knighthood in the Queen's annual birthday honours list.

In his new book -Beyond Happiness - Anthony distinguishes between pleasure, happiness and joy and offers an original approach to making our lives more meaningful and rewarding.

Harvard School of Public Health examined 200 separate research studies on psychological wellbeing and cardiovascular health.

Optimism and positive emotion were found to provide protection against cardiovascular disease, to slow progression of heart disease and reduce risk, by around 50%, of experiencing a cardiovascular event, such as a heart attack.
